Harbour Lights

Blue hour is a photographer's secret weapon—that brief window after sunset when the sky takes on a deep, saturated blue that can't be replicated at any other time of day. I stayed well past sunset at Harbour Town, knowing this moment would come, when the artificial lights of the marina and lighthouse would balance perfectly with the remaining natural light in the sky.

The water was extraordinarily calm, creating a mirror so perfect that the reflection was nearly as sharp as the scene itself. The lighthouse beacon glowed warmly against the deepening blue sky, while the marina buildings cast their golden light across the water. Every yacht, every piling, every detail was doubled in the reflection, creating a sense of symmetry and balance that felt almost meditative.

What makes blue hour special is the quality of color it produces. The deep blue of the sky contrasts beautifully with the warm yellows and oranges of artificial light. The scene takes on an otherworldly quality—familiar yet transformed, real yet dreamlike. I worked quickly during this brief window, knowing it would last only fifteen or twenty minutes before the sky would darken completely and the balance would be lost.

Harbour Lights captures that fleeting twilight moment when day and night exist in perfect balance, when still waters double every light and color, reminding us that some of photography's most magical moments happen not at the obvious times but in the transitions between.
